Los Cabos Humane Society (LCHS) fue fundada por Barbara Cooperman y Joanie Feinstein en 1992, con la invaluable ayuda del Dr. Tapia MVZ. Ha estado en operación continua en Cabo San Lucas desde entonces en un terreno donado generosamente por la familia Victor Hugo Ceseña.
En Los Cabos, el municipio de mayor crecimiento en México, hay miles de perros y gatos abandonados, enfermos o sin hogar.
Nuestra misión es clara: detener el número de perros y gatos abandonados, maltratados y sin hogar a través del rescate, la rehabilitación y la adopción.
Desde 2018, LCHS ha sido un refugio de «no matar» y, a veces, los perros y gatos viven con nosotros durante un año o más hasta que se encuentra un hogar adecuado.
Desde 2018 hasta 2025, LCHS realizó más que 19.000 esterilizaciones. Hemos brindado atención veterinaria, vacunas, esterilizaciones, alimentos y refugio a miles de perros y gatos durante los últimos 33 años. Muchos de estos animales llegan en condiciones de desnutrición o abuso. Las donaciones nos permiten mantener el refugio donde pueden recuperar su salud, socializar y encontrar un hogar permanente.
La educación comunitaria es muy importante para trabajar para frenar la sobrepoblación animal. Recibimos estudiantes en el refugio para enseñarles sobre el trato humano y el cuidado de los animales de compañía, y por qué la esterilización y la castración son tan vitales. También brindamos una oportunidad para que los estudiantes de secundaria completen las horas requeridas de servicio comunitario en el refugio.
Tenemos muchos perros de razas medianas y grandes en nuestro refugio, incluidas muchas mezclas de pit bull. Constituyen la mayoría de los perros que corren sueltos y procrean. Por lo general, no se adoptan rápidamente. El refugio es el hogar de muchos gatos adolescentes y adultos que también son más difíciles de ubicar que los gatitos.
Empleamos personal que cubren el cuidado de todos los animales los 7 días de la semana. El refugio está abierto al público los lunes y martes de las 8 – 17:30.
¿Cómo financiamos nuestras operaciones? Dependemos de donaciones únicas y recurrentes de amantes de los animales aquí y en el extranjero. Los voluntarios venden camisetas y suministros para mascotas todos los sábados en nuestro puesto en el Mercado Orgánico de San José.

- Compra camisetas y gorras de Los Cabos Humane Society y collares, correas y juguetes para mascotas los sábados en el Mercado Orgánico de San José
- Ofrezca tu tiempo como voluntario para pasear a los perros y socializar a los gatos
- Adopta a nuestros perros y gatos sanos, vacunados y esterilizados en el refugio y en PetCo en el centro comercial Puerto Paraíso en San Lucas.

About Us
The Los Cabos Humane Society (LCHS) was founded by Barbara Cooperman and Joanie Feinstein in 1992 with the invaluable help of Dr. Tapia MVZ. It has been in continuous operation in Cabo San Lucas since then on land generously donated by the Victor Hugo Ceseña family.
In Los Cabos, the fastest growing municipality in all of Mexico, there are thousands of abandoned, sick, or homeless dogs and cats.
Our mission is clear: to stop the number of abandoned, abused, and homeless dogs and cats through rescue, rehabilitation and adoption.
Since 2018, LCHS has been a “no-kill” shelter, and sometimes dogs and cats live with us for a year or more until a suitable home is found.
From 2018 through 2025, LCHS performed over 19,000 spay and neuters. We have provided veterinary care, vaccinations, sterilization, food, and shelter to thousands of dogs and cats over the past 33 years. Many of these animals arrived in malnourished or abused conditions. Donations allow us to maintain the shelter where they can recover, regain their health, socialize, and find a permanent home.
Community education is very important in working to curb animal overpopulation. We host students at the shelter to teach them about the humane treatment and care of pets, and why spaying and neutering are so vital. We also provide an opportunity for high school students to complete required community service hours at the shelter.
We have many medium and large breed dogs at our shelter, including many pit bull mixes. They make up the majority of the dogs that run free and breed. They are typically not adopted quickly. The shelter is home to many adolescent and adult cats who are also harder to place than kittens.
We employ staff who cover the care of all animals 7 days a week. The shelter is open to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8am – 5:30pm.
How do we fund our operations? We rely on one-time and recurring donations from animal lovers here and abroad and volunteers sell t-shirts and pet supplies every Saturday at our booth at the San Jose Organic Market.

- Buy Los Cabos Humane Society t-shirts and caps and pet collars, leashes, and toys on Saturdays at the San Jose Organic Market
- Volunteer your time to walk the dogs and socialize the cats
- Adopt our healthy, vaccinated, and sterilized dogs and cats at the shelter and at PetCo in the Puerto Paraiso shopping center in San Lucas.
